... for beginners and experienced climbers
The mountain directly located behind our house is called ‘’San Bartolome’’ and is one of the best rock climbing spot with awesome views in the south of Spain
The walls of the rock climbing area San Bartolo in Tarifa is wind protected and offers, due to the mild climate, great rock climbing fun by the the whole year round. The rock consists of compact sand- and limestone and has a good and unpolished quality. The majority of the climbing routes are up to 25 meters. There are also some multi- pitch routes up to 80 meters.
The set up and different rock formations are also exceptional suitable for bouldering
San Bartolo sits just ten minutes from the surf capital town of Tarifa. With Africa a stone throw away, one foot in the Mediterranean the other in the Atlantic, this crag has a bit of everything, full range of grades and climbing types. From VS multi-pitch trad to pumpy 7b+ sport on molten sandstone.
The area is split into two crags really, with the upper (winter) area being mainly multi-pitch trad and a range of sport routes of all lengths and grades.
The lower area is all sport with a massive range of grades (but all fairly pumpy) and awesome rock formations (make sure you head all the way up to “Mosaico”).
There is a little bar in Betis below the parking area which usually stocks the guidebook for climbing this area.
